Serving With Purpose. Giving With Heart. Impacting Calgary Together.

The Kenyan Calgary Association (KCA) is built on the belief that a strong community is one that gives back. Our commitment to service extends beyond our membership—we actively participate in making Calgary cleaner, kinder, and more connected. Through volunteerism, outreach, and civic responsibility, KCA proudly contributes to the well-being of the wider Alberta community.

We are guided by the values of unity, compassion, service, and stewardship, ensuring that our presence in Calgary leaves a positive footprint for generations to come.

1. Volunteer Program at the Calgary Drop-In Centre

KCA has consistently partnered with the Calgary Drop-In Centre, one of the largest homeless shelters in the province, to support vulnerable individuals in the city.

Our involvement includes:

  • Meal preparation and serving
  • Sorting donations and supplies
  • Supporting residents in day-to-day needs
  • Participating in special care drives

Through these efforts, we show the heart of Kenya—compassion, generosity, and community.

2. Service at The Mustard Seed

KCA actively volunteers at The Mustard Seed, providing hands-on support to people experiencing poverty and homelessness.

Activities include:

  • Clothing donation sorting
  • Packing essential kits
  • Kitchen and cleanup support
  • Assisting during community meal programs

Our members take pride in giving their time to uplift individuals and families facing difficult circumstances.

3. Alberta Highway Cleanup Initiative

As part of our civic responsibility, KCA regularly participates in the Alberta Provincial Highway Cleanup Program, taking charge of designated sections of the province’s major roads.

Impact:

  • Keeping our highways clean and safe
  • Promoting environmental stewardship
  • Representing Kenyans as active contributors to public service in Alberta

This initiative highlights our commitment to maintaining a clean and sustainable community environment.

4. Bow River Cleanup

Environmental care is a key pillar of our community service efforts. KCA organizes and participates in Bow River cleanup activities to help protect one of Calgary’s most important natural resources.

Our contributions:

  • Removing waste along the riverbanks
  • Promoting conservation awareness
  • Encouraging youth participation in ecological stewardship

This hands-on initiative strengthens our bond with nature and ensures we contribute meaningfully to sustainability efforts.

5. Community Support & Charity Drives

KCA continues to support families and individuals through various outreach drives throughout the year.

Examples:

  • Food pantry contributions
  • Clothing and winter gear drives
  • Household essentials for newcomers
  • Emergency assistance for families in crisis

These acts of kindness reflect our belief that no member of our community should struggle alone.

Why Community Service Matters to Us

Our commitment to service is rooted in Kenyan values—Harambee, meaning “pulling together”. We see Calgary as our home, and giving back is our expression of gratitude and belonging.

Through community service, KCA aims to:

  • Strengthen Calgary through active participation
  • Promote volunteerism among youth and families
  • Demonstrate positive Kenyan representation
  • Build meaningful partnerships with local organizations
  • Create a legacy of compassion and responsibility

We believe that every act of service—big or small—creates ripples of change.
