A Story of Unity, Growth & Community
The Kenyan Calgary Association (KCA) was born from a simple idea anchored in friendship, unity, and a deep desire to belong. In 2005, when the Kenyan population in Calgary was still very small and easily countable, a group of 20 close-knit Kenyan friends would meet casually for coffee, weekend hangouts, and social bonding. What started as a small circle soon revealed a much bigger truth—there were many more Kenyans in the city who had no structured way to connect, support each other, or feel seen.
During one of those gatherings, a bold idea was placed on the table:
“Why don’t we form an association that brings all Kenyans in Calgary together?”
The suggestion immediately resonated. There was a growing number of Kenyans arriving in the city—students, professionals, families—but many were unaware of existing meetups or had no mechanism to plug into the community. In solidarity and excitement, the group refined the idea through informal meetings, fueled by passion and a shared belief that unity matters.
By 2007, after fulfilling all requirements and selecting the first board members, the Kenyan Community Association (KCA) was officially established.
Since then, the growth has been remarkable.
From 20 founding friends, to 70 early members, and now hundreds of registered Kenyans across Calgary, KCA continues to expand as we set our sights on reaching thousands, guided by intentional strategy and a modern vision.
Today, we honor our founders whose commitment laid the foundation we proudly stand on. Their belief in community continues to inspire our mission as we build stronger programs, initiate new ventures, and safeguard our heritage for generations to come.

Why We Exist
KCA was created to ensure no Kenyan in Calgary ever walks alone. Our purpose is deeply rooted in connection—connecting newcomers to resources, families to support systems, and generations to their cultural identity. We exist to create a space where Kenyans feel seen, valued, and united. Through our programs, events, and leadership, we help our community thrive socially, culturally, and economically.
Our Impact in Numbers
These numbers reflect our journey, our growth, and the strength of a united community. Every milestone represents the lives touched, the culture preserved, and the future we continue to build together.
